About the Exhibition

Jonathan Ching’s new exhibit, If It’s White and in a Bottle, It Must Be Milk, is a follow-up to his last show, Days of Thunder, as he continues to explore immortality, mortality, memory, and change. “This is my reaction to coming to terms with change…It is human nature to resist change – holding on to the comfort zone as long as possible, only to give in to change kicking and screaming…We seek to capture moments in our lives, preserving perfection although we know that it won’t last forever. Once captured, the experience, good or bad, will tarnish and fade over time, leaving only a faint memory…” Ching demonstrates this in his latest set of works. “If It’s White and in a Bottle, It Must Be Milk” is a series of four paintings featuring a student, a teacher, a princess, and a fool who all strive to grasp “what is forever” and the search for happiness ever after. “Everything is not always as it seems,” notes Ching. Then there’s “Gang of Four – Larry, Moe, Curly and Me,” a series of four paintings that seeks to depict four different selves, either as phases or co-existing within oneself.
