Shoe Box Diorama 2

About the Exhibition

Shoe Box Diorama 2 stems from the idea that craft-based or handmade materials make beautiful art works. Like the exhibit held at Mag:net Gallery last month, it continues to explore what can be created from traditional craft materials to found objects. Bea Camacho, Christina Dy, Eugene Jarque, Hitoshi Kanamura, Ikeuchi Yoshie, Ikoy Ricio, Jordin Isip, Lena Cobangbang, Louie Cordero, Lyra Garcellano, Mac Valdezco, Mariano Ching, Mike Muñoz, and Yasmin Sison have long been fascinated with viewing crafts as art. “We’ve been dabbling with different craft forms and have been subscribing to crafts magazines for quite some time now,” says Ching, speaking for the group. He adds that each participating artist is free to create or recreate objects, or explore ideas of their liking in a single work or a series of works. “There really wasn’t any limitation.” On view at the exhibit are crocheted pieces, sewn works, miniatures, photographs, multiple edition prints, and found objects.
