Nothing New Under the Sun

About the Exhibition

For his latest one-man exhibit of limited-edition digital drawings, Pablo Biglang-awa Jr. goes back to drawing “everyday things,” as he did in his 2005 exhibit, In the Shadow of Memory, then held at West Gallery in SM Megamall. Biglang-awa says his affinity to the subject matter may be borne out of “a continuing urge to find meaning in these objects, associating them to a certain memory, emotion, or plain sentiment,” more so in this era of social networking sites.

Among chosen objects include a house cat, a dead bird, a pair of sneakers, a paintbrush, props and locations Biglang-awa used in his indie film projects (among them, Inang Yaya, Maling Akala and Last Supper No.3). Biglang-awa shares, “Drawing these in Photoshop makes the experience more intense. It empowers the artist in engaging the subject, especially when working with high-resolution photos and scanned images. It is amplified by the idea that until the drawing is printed on paper, the work is constantly volatile. All the elements are uncommitted, which can be altered in so many ways.”

All digital drawings are printed using Giclee printing on 17 x 22-inch acid-free archival paper by Gallery 7 Digital Studio.
