West Gallery

[sic] featuring Crist Espiritu, Ian Quirante and Costantino Zicarelli is a BFA Art Management thesis project by Siddharta Perez (Ateneo de Manila University). More than an academic endeavor, this exhibition is done under the principles and practice of actual curation, and is generously sponsored by West Gallery.

Taking off from the grammatical tool “sic” which denotes a specific element in a quoted section is as it appears in the original document, the exhibition insists that works by a particular artist are just as they appear. [sic] aims to represent a world deliberately and consciously revealed by the artists’ experiences vis-à-vis the production of an art-object.

With the different sentiments expressed by each artist, [sic] encompasses universal, contemporary issues of technology and other power relations. Crist Espiritu makes use of outrageous characters and vivid colors to poke fun at glossy technological productions. On the other hand, Ian Quirante’s works contain scientific and linguistic traces. The aloof visual playground of Costantino Zicarelli is a reproduction of historic photographs.

[sic] opens 7:00pm on Tuesday, 12 February 2008 in West Gallery located at 48 West Avenue, Cubao Quezon City. Exhibit runs till 19 March 2008. Catering is provided for by Petit Gana.
