Poklong Anading focuses on photographing circular rags that he found lying around in the street. These rags were made from remnant fabric used by garment factories. Mounted on seven light boxes back-to-back featuring different images, the works are composed as if they were visual collages. The rags are handmade and individually put together. The patterns are unique, depending on the available material, just like a painter reaches out to different hues on his palette. Anading compares the installation to an explosion site, an archipelago, or crumbs that would make up or reveal a whole. In the process, he asks what is art, “Are they flags, or maps, or traffic signs, or road signs, or design?”
