In Various Conformations, artist Jucar Raquepo lends his own touch to abstract art: combining illustrations, rough sketches and graffiti-like designs against the backdrop of familiar shapes and forms. His style is not abstract in the strictest sense, often using symbolical, figurative, or representational images. Raquepo, who studied studio arts, majoring in painting, at UP, takes influences from both his arts background and from popular media, and notably links those with what he observes as distinctly Filipino. The color schemes Raquepo uses are taken from everyday life, including colors and designs he sees in public utility vehicles, sari-sari stores, public school buildings, roads, etc.
