Lawrence Borsoto visually revisits recent and old memories, paying tribute to the people who have been a part of his life in You Are A Moment. Borsoto puts such memories in perspective: On one hand, his interaction with them taught what he needed to know, and on the other, he feels like they are the supporting players in his own biopic. He realizes how lonely it could be, “knowing in the end, it is only me and the memory of those around me.” He traced back old photographs, randomly choosing them as if mimicking the way “memories came to me.” Three out of the four were made to look like the photographs, from a familiar rainy day scenario where he lives to that of an assistant of a Volkswagen restorer. Then, there is “February 11, 2004,” which brings back memories of living in Cavite, the landscape of which has changed since malls were built there. The fourth painting, “You Are a Moment,” is inspired by a bullfighter about to unleash his final move. “I compare the bull to the people I met before, and who I will never see again. For my existence, by their death.”
